National Women's Political Caucus of Washington

A great night for Washington women!

Washington women won in 2018!

Wow. What a night for Washington women!

Today, we are celebrating the tremendous success of our endorsed pro-choice women candidates across the state. With the final tally still to come, at least 61 of our endorsed candidates are on their way to serve in their local city hall, county council, Olympia, and Washington, D.C.!

Key winners include first-time candidates such as Representative-elect Lauren Davis in the 32nd LD, Representative-elect My-Linh Thai in the 41st LD, and Senator-elect Claire Wilson in the 30th LD. Representative-elect Debra Lekanoff, in the 40th, will be the first Native woman elected to the state House. And we have retained a woman supermajority on the State Supreme Court! We couldn’t be more grateful and excited for these women who have stepped into leadership roles across our communities and state to protect our reproductive freedoms and fight for women’s equity in Washington.

Across the country, women stepped up and shattered glass ceilings, from state legislatures to governorships and to Congress. In Washington and around the U.S., so many first-time women candidates stepped up to the plate to lead, and they WON. For the first time ever, over 116 women are headed to Congress, including the first two Native American women, the first two Muslim women, and the first Black women to represent Massachusetts and Connecticut in the U.S. House. Here in Washington State, Dr. Kim Schrier, newly elected from the 8th CD, will be the first woman doctor in Congress. As results continue to come in over the next few days, we know those numbers, and these historic “firsts,” will continue to grow.

And we invite you to join us to celebrate these great victories, and the women who made it all happen! Please join us at our annual Campaign Heroine’s Event to celebrate all of our hard work and get replenished and refueled for next year. We’ll socialize with our endorsed candidates and together, we’ll honor the women who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to help elect women this cycle! This event is free and a wonderful way to celebrate everything we achieved for women in 2018.

As you know, our work doesn’t start or end on Election Day. We are already preparing to make 2019 yet another year of success for women candidates in Washington. Join us for our annual meeting on January 13, where we’ll unveil our new plans for next year. Want to join us? Thank you for everything you do to help elect a woman-powered Washington.

Onward,
